PETALING JAYA: Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has decided against running for the vice-president’s post at the upcoming PAS muktamar to be held in Kuala Terengganu on Nov 6 and 7.

Sanusi, who is also the party’s election director, said this in response to a news report that listed him, together with four other candidates, as those qualified to contest for the position.

“I am not contesting (for the vice-president’s position),” Sanusi told Berita Harian today.

Sanusi had been in the limelight recently following his spat with Penang leaders over water drawn from the Sungai Muda and other issues and also over Penang’s “lease” from Kedah.

Earlier, the media had reported on the candidates eligible to contest for positions in the 2021-2023 PAS central committee at the party’s 67th annual muktamar.

The other candidates listed as eligible to contest for the vice-presidency were the three incumbents – Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Idris Ahmad and Mohd Amar Abdullah – and the party’s central committee member, Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki.

The muktamar will be held in a hybrid manner with the physical presence of only the central working committee members, members of the PAS Syura Council and the party’s state commissioners.

The delegates will be in their respective states and follow the muktamar virtually through PAS’ official social media platforms.
