“No dealing with political opportunists, charlatans during Melaka election!”
PAKATAN Harapan (PH) should make it clear that it would not work or cooperate with certain opportunists who are prone to jump from one party or coalition to another, said Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr Ramasamy Palanisamy.
According to the Perai assemblyman, the unscrupulous work of these handful of self-seekers had caused the collapse of two state governments in Melaka within a short span of time.
“Putting blind primacy over winning at any cost would simply mean sacrificing principles on the grounds of political expediency,” he pointed out.
Ramasamy opined that PH has the possibility of taking a serious shot at forming the Government in the next general election (GE15).
“This requires that PH is seen as a political coalition that is worth supporting.
“If PH brings into its folds the opportunists, then the future prospect of winning the Federal Government is not going to be easy.”
Ramasamy also noted that the upcoming state election in Melaka must be seen from the perspective of PH regaining its pride and dignity to meet GE15.
This is why any attempt to seek accommodation with those who have betrayed the mandate of the people will be politically costly, he added.
“PH simply cannot afford another serious mishap in the fast-unfolding political situation.
“If the coalition sticks to its principles and wins, the victory will be much deserved, while victory by sacrificing its principles might be a pyrrhic one.”
For PH, the upcoming state election in Melaka might be a forerunner of what might possibly happen in the federal election.
“Given this, the multi-racial coalition must get its act together. There must be no wheedling and dealing with political opportunists and charlatans.
“PH must not give the impression that it is willing to work with anyone just to win because such a victory is meaningless.
“The message must be loud and clear – no deals with frogs and opportunists.
The state election is not just about winning but redemption of dignity and pride that were seriously undermined by working with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the brief stint in the Federal Government, Ramasamy added.
“More importantly, the state election is about cementing the relationship and goodwill among the three component parties so that PH could emerge as the next alternative government of Malaysia and move away from the extremist political models of UMNO, Bersatu and PAS.” – Oct 22, 2021.
