Get inoculated by Nov 1 or face sacking, civil servants warned
CIVIL servants who fail to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by Nov 1 could face the sack, said the Public Service Department (JPA).
Previously, JPA had only warned of “disciplinary action” for federal civil servants who did not get their double shots by Nov 1.
However, Bernama today reported JPA director-general Datuk Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman as saying that failure to comply with the department head’s instructions to get vaccinated on or after Nov 1 “may result in disciplinary action or termination of service”.
The report cited a JPA circular uploaded to its website yesterday.
“Officers are responsible to obtain complete COVID-19 immunisation as prescribed by the Government. This is to ensure a safe work environment and (that) service delivery … and public service productivity is at an optimal level,” Bernama quoted the circular as saying.
The circular added that civil servants who could not be vaccinated due to health reasons could be instructed to undergo a medical check-up with a registered medical practitioner.
Department heads can instruct their staff to undergo a COVID-19 tests if they have been confirmed to be unfit to receive inoculation for health reasons.
Department heads can also, at any time, instruct their staff who have not been immunised to undergo COVID-19 screening at their own expense.
However, the Government will bear the cost of COVID-19 tests for those who are not eligible to get vaccinated due to health reasons. – Oct 19, 2021.
