“Bloated Cabinet not enough?”: Netizens pan Azalina’s new job as special adviser
AS Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob appointed Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said as special adviser on law and human rights), the public took to social media to vent their frustration over it.
“I guess the Law Minister and AG are not good enough? We’re too flush with money I guess… need advisers left right back and centre,” said lawyer-activist Siti Kasim.
User Muhd Zulilham shot a question directly to Azalina asking: “YB..persoalan..knpa perlu lantik lg penasihat sedangkan dah ada Menteri Undang2 dan Tugas2 Khas?adakah perlantikan ni sebagai alasan untuk YB menyokong kerajaan tanpa mengkritik perkara yg ada?bukan xgembira..tp pelik..dhrp YB dpt buat perubahan la.”
(Why does the prime minister need an adviser when he already has a Law Minister and Special Functions Minister? Is this appointment made to buy support so you won’t be a critic? It’s not that I’m not happy for you but I find it odd. I hope you continue with your reforms)
During the administration of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Azalina was seen as voice of reason in her capacity as the Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
Despite being part a Government backbencher, the Umno MP was cordial and accommodating to both sides of the political divide.
Azalina had been a vocal critic of party hopping and vowed to table a Private Member’s Bill on recall election after Ismail took over the premiership.
On that note, user Ameen noted: “If the PM need an adviser for almost everything than what is the function of his all 69 cabinet ministers!
“Is this necessary when most people are losing jobs & businesses closing due to pandemic? Next GE not far away and all this wastage would surely be noted by all voters.”
Attempt to muzzle Azalina
Netizen Hari12 claimed that Azalina was given the job to silence her from pursuing reforms to the administration.
“Kan azalina voice out dalam dewan..pasal katak lompat pasal children citizenship….so dengan memberi position ini mulut ditutup la..apa lagi…so lepas nie dia sokong kerajaan la…sudah ade position ma.”
(Azalina is too vocal in the Dewan Rakyat on party hopping and citizenship for Malaysian mothers wedded to foreigners. With this, she is expected to keep quiet and support the Government).
User Abdul Samad Alias retorted: “ Mmg Kabinet Sampah la mcm ni….dari Bersatu tukar kepada UMNO….perangai lagi teruk…abih duit rakyat aje…dah ada Kabinet 70 org..”
(A Cabinet team of thrash. From Bersatu to Umno but their attitudes keep getting worse. Wasting public funds despite having a team of 70 ministers and deputies) – Oct 3, 2021.
Ironically, Azalina is better than many members of the current Cabinet.
ReplyDeleteWe must not forget that not only should we condemn the "briber" (in this case, Ismail), we should also condemn the "bribee" (Azalina) if she were to accept the post and compromise her principles.
