Quarantine order backdated, says Guan Eng, in explaining presence at assembly
Lim Guan Eng has denied that he breached his home quarantine order to attend the Penang state assembly.
GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today he was given a backdated quarantine order by health ministry officials in Penang after he was found to have been in close contact with a Covid-19 positive case.
His explanation comes after allegations he had breached the home quarantine order to attend the state assembly.
Lim said he was informed that he had come into close contact with a Covid-19 positive person after he attended the Penang assembly on Sept 2.
“After being tested negative, the health ministry officially issued a home self-quarantine order on Sept 6, effective from Sept 1 to 10, and required me to wear the pink wristband,” he said in a statement.
Yesterday, two Gerakan Youth members lodged a police report claiming that Lim had violated his stay-at-home order by attending the state assembly on Sept 2.
They claimed that he attended the assembly despite Lim’s lawyers telling the court that he was on a 10-day quarantine from Sept 1.
Lim’s lawyers had reportedly told the High Court in Kuala Lumpur that he was unable to attend the proceedings following a quarantine order from Sept 1 to 10.
They also claimed that within the 10-day quarantine, Lim had gone out to give food parcels.
To this, Lim said the Facebook posts of him handing out food were uploaded late, as the food handouts were carried out much earlier on Aug 31 in his Bagan parliamentary constituency.
He said the accusations against him breaching quarantine rules were false and untrue.

The explanation sounds fishy.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I just don't understand Malaysian politicians. Quite often they do things which skirt the law or just on the fringe and when called out always claim such accusations are false.
It is like they enjoy creating some drama. Really stupid!
