Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has insisted that lodging police reports should not be misconstrued as incitement, but rather as a right of every citizen.
The DAP lawmaker said that while he had lodged multiple reports against controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth, none were made with the intention of inciting harm or fueling personal attacks.
“Let him also lodge a police report (against me) if he wants. I have no issue with that,” Rayer told Malaysiakini today.
This came after Zamri shared a 19-second video clip last night of two unidentified men on a motorcycle and four others on foot approaching a parked Jaguar, allegedly with intentions to attack.
Zamri had claimed on Facebook to be the driver of the car and accused the alleged assailants of acting due to “incitement and a false police report” against him by Rayer.
Based on the video, the parked Jaguar was approached by two men on a motorcycle and several other men on foot before the driver was seen to move out of the parking space in an attempt to flee.
Zamri, in his post, admitted to “running over” two men on the motorcycle as he alleged they threw rocks at his car and broke two windows.

The exact scene of the incident is unclear. However, Zamri had appeared shortly after at a gathering led by NGO leader Sophian Zain, believed to be outside the Seberang Perai Tengah district police station in Penang.
Zamri also separately shared an excerpt from his police report against Rayer, which stated that the incident allegedly took place outside his residence at Taman Aston Acacia, Bukit Mertajam.
‘Why was Zamri here?’
Rayer, however, questioned Zamri’s presence in Bukit Mertajam despite the cancellation of an initial protest against a temple at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
“As far as I’m concerned, why did he come to Bukit Mertajam in the first place? The police have warned him not to be there.
“How can my police report incite any attack? Did I lodge a report as a Hindu against a non-Hindu?
"As a citizen, I want this country to remain in peace and order, and I lodged a report as a citizen,” said Rayer.

Rayer’s fourth and latest report against Zamri was lodged on March 4, and Penang police chief Azizee Ismail said the case is being probed under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
One suspect arrested
When contacted, Azizee today confirmed a suspect has been arrested in connection with the alleged attack against Zamri.
"An arrest was made early this morning. The case is being investigated under Section 506 and Section 427 of the Penal Code," he said, citing provisions for criminal intimidation and committing mischief that causes loss or damage to property.
Asked whether Zamri and Rayer will be summoned for questioning, Azizee said, "Investigations are ongoing, and police will call anyone who can assist in the process."
Separately, Malaysia Gazette reported that police obtained a four-day remand order against a 20-year-old factory worker, believed to be the owner of the motorcycle in the viral video.

No disruption to hospital operations
Rayer, who is also the Penang Hindu Endowment Board chairperson, confirmed that prayers at the Shree Deva Maruthuvar Jada Muniswarar Alayam temple yesterday proceeded without disruption and that he did not see Zamri or any protesters on site.
“Every time we have these prayers, the temple will get permission from the hospital management. There has never been an issue for the past umpteenth years.
“In the event of an emergency, we made sure to never obstruct any ambulance in or out. No one from Bukit Mertajam Hospital has ever complained,” he insisted.

Devotees and temple leaders have so far maintained that the structure is “older than the hospital” and should be preserved, while critics argue it should be removed based on the official land ownership status.
Organisers of the cancelled protest had pledged to continue their fight against "illegal" houses of worship, including structures on public premises and privately owned land.
