Summary

  • Puspakom confirms that the suspect who slapped one of its officers was a customer whose vehicle failed a brake test.

  • Chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman says customers who received negative inspections should rectify any issues detected instead of attacking Puspakom staff.

  • Mahmood praises the professionalism of the victim, adding that Puspakom strives to make road transport safer.

Puspakom’s investigation into the viral slap incident has determined that the suspect was a customer whose vehicle had failed the brake test.

After that, the suspect attacked the vehicle examiner in a confrontation, Puspakom said in a statement yesterday.

“Failure in our periodic inspections indicates that the vehicle is not safe on the road.

“Customers who receive such inspection results should take note and immediately repair the condition of their vehicles for their own safety and that of other road users, not act aggressively and attack our staff,” said Puspakom chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman.

On Friday (Jan 17), Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat confirmed that the incident had occurred at 5.40pm on Nov 14 last year, in Taman Daya, Johor Bahru.

The suspect was a 28-year-old man whose lorry failed the inspection, he added.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Committed to better road safety

Meanwhile, Mahmood praised the victim’s professional behaviour in the incident.

Puspakom does not tolerate such behaviour and will cooperate fully with the police to ensure rightful action is taken against the perpetrator, he added.

“Currently, Puspakom is facing challenges in various aspects. Our vehicle inspectors are ridiculed and scorned, especially on social media, but this incident shows that Puspakom is still filled with professional and integrity-minded staff.

“I am confident that the majority of Puspakom staff have these values and firmly adhere to our mission, which is to make road transport safer,” he said

This statement should be given "The Sarcastic " award of Jan 2025
What made the perpetrator think he had the right to slap the officer?

Who enabled such mentality among those who do wrong?

Was this thxg guy part of the gang that regularly feed some inside there and felt arrogantly that he can get what he wants and do what he likes ??
Hmm that's one side of the story. Reporters should always try and get both sides of the story, otherwise don't report. We already know that Pushpacom is rife with corruption and this does not vindicate them.

  1. The Customer possibly already paid a nice sum to "Kautim" his vehicle, so likely got very upset and surprised when the vehicle got failed.
