PETALING JAYA
The Johor Bahru High Court today rejected a habeas corpus application by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings CEO Nasiruddin Ali and his wife Azura Yusof, which they filed on Oct 30 last year.

They had sought to challenge their detention under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 after being charged with being members of an organised criminal group.

In a report by Kosmo, judge Abu Bakar Katar said the applicants were under a legal detention warrant, making the writ of habeas corpus academic.

“This court is of the opinion that when the writ of habeas corpus was filed, the applicants were not in wrongful or unreasonable detention,” he said during the proceedings.

Rosli Kamaruddin, the applicants’ lawyer, said they would file an appeal against the decision in the Federal Court next week.

During proceedings today, Nasiruddin and Azura were represented by Rosli, Najib Zakaria, Boestamam Ahmad, Dorina Abdullah, Hasnan Hamzah, Zaim Rosli, Luqman Zainal, Schanni Feizal and Zahier Rosli.
