UPDATED 4.30PM | Added Umno Youth chief’s statement over the matter.

Bersatu’s allies in Perikatan Nasional have been urged to state their stand on the controversy involving PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin’s claim that the previous Agong had acted against him when appointing the prime minister after the last polls.

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer pointed out that PAS had been silent on the issue, which has angered the Pahang royal family and sparked numerous police reports to be lodged.

"In the meantime, the silence from PAS, Bersatu's partner in PN, is deafening.

"Does this mean that PAS condones what Muhyiddin has done?

"The deafening silence from PAS on this matter also goes to show that all talk that PAS is loyal to the monarchy and reveres and respects the institution of the royalty is mere sandiwara (pretentious)," Rayer (above) said in a statement.

‘Clarify your stance’

Umno Youth also expressed disappointment over Muhyiddin’s remark and challenged the PN leadership to clarify its stance.

In a statement, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said Bersatu's allies PAS and Gerakan should come forward and explain.

“Umno Youth also wants to question the PN leadership, consisting of PAS, Bersatu, and Gerakan, whether Muhyiddin's statement represents a consensus and speaks for all of them.

“In Umno Youth’s view, it is appropriate for Muhyiddin and PN to issue an official and public apology to clear the doubts and suspicions that have arisen against the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.

Akmal added that Muhyiddin's statement created a negative perception and doubt about the head of state, whose powers are outlined in the Federal Constitution under Article 40(2) and Article 43(2).

“Umno Youth expresses gratitude for the firm decree of the Pahang crown prince, urging police to take stern action against the transgression that has occurred,” he said.

Muhyiddin’s remark

The former prime minister reportedly made the remark in a speech during the Nenggiri by-election campaign in Felda Perasu in Gua Musang, Kelantan on Aug 15.

A video of the speech went viral on social media where, between minutes 49 and 52, the Bersatu president claimed that he had the support of 115 MPs to form the government but was thwarted by Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Following this, Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah called for the police to act decisively against Muhyiddin.

Police have summoned Muhyiddin to provide his statement tomorrow over his speech that allegedly touched on 3R issues (race, religion, royalty).

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the police had received 28 reports from various parties regarding the matter.
