Former Penang Hindu Endowments Board chairman P Ramasamy claimed the audit was political in nature.

GEORGE TOWN
Former Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy has dismissed claims of
red flags
in the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) apparently raised in an audit, saying that all major decisions were made collectively.

Ramasamy told FMT both Jelutong MP RSN Rayer and Penang housing and environment committee chairman S Sundarajoo served as commissioners during his tenure as PHEB chairman for 13 years, from 2009 until 2022.

He said Rayer was a commissioner for a total of 15 years before he was appointed chairman of PHEB last year.

“The audit report has raised some ‘red flags’, meaning there were problems in the management of the board under my direction.

(However,) all major decisions in PHEB were made collectively with the consent of the commissioners, including Rayer and Sundarajoo,
 he said.

He hopes that the duo will not dodge the issues raised and claim they were not part of the decision-making process.

Ramasamy also alleged that the audit ordered by PHEB was political in nature, intended to

discredit me and those commissioners who contributed much to the development of PHEB
.

He said he welcomed a thorough investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the issues

red flagged
 in the audit report.

I have no problems with MACC investigating the ‘red flags’. Rayer is not even aware that we reported the findings of an internal audit last year to MACC,
 he said.

Earlier today, Rayer held a press conference to announce that several

red flags
were raised by an accredited independent auditor, whose findings would be handed over to MACC.
