Veteran politician Tajuddin Abdul Rahman turned up at the Umno annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur despite being slapped with a suspension.

When quizzed, he said: “Melepaskan rindu (misses the party).”

Furthermore, Tajuddin (above) said his presence is proof that he still loves Umno and is hoping that it would be able to rise to its former glory again.

“I came to look around, ‘melepaskan rindu’ towards Umno. Although suspended, I am still Umno. I still (consider myself) a member (despite my membership being suspended).

“As a member, I love the party,” he added.

In June 2022, Tajuddin was suspended for six years for being critical of Umno in his statements, speeches and ceramah during closed-door meetings he attended.

Tajuddin had also sent several appeal letters for his suspension to be lifted but there has been no response from the leadership.

In June this year, the Umno Veterans’ Club had urged the Umno supreme council to consider giving him a second chance.

“He has never wavered, even after four appeals. He remains steadfast to Umno. Umno is his family. He has never sought refuge in other parties. This is why we stand by him,” they said.

Asked if he had come to the meeting to meet with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Tajuddin said he did not wish to “disturb” the latter.

“If invited, I will go. Otherwise, it will be a disturbance for him,” he added.
