Salleh: Muhyiddin won't dare accept 'name 115' challenge

Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin will not accept the challenge to name the 115 MPs who purportedly supported him to become prime minister after the last national polls, according to Salleh Said Keruak.

This comes after Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zakarshi dared the former prime minister to reveal the names of the lawmakers.

During his speech at Felda Perasu in Kelantan last week, Muhyiddin claimed he had enough backing from MPs to form a government but was thwarted by the 16th Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

However, Bersatu Youth chief and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal earlier told the media that he was one of the signatories and a witness of the statutory declaration (SD) containing the names.

He also claimed that the SD with the 115 names, inked on Nov 20, 2022, was submitted to the private secretary of the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Salleh (above) claimed that Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, would not reveal the alleged names for fear of losing his post in the opposition coalition.

“I am confident Muhyiddin will not reveal the names as challenged by Puad Zakarshi,” he said in a Facebook post.

The former Sabah chief minister also claimed that Muhyiddin is merely making assumptions about the support he commands.

“Should Muhyiddin disclose the names and some of them deny it, he will lose credibility as a leader.

“Therefore, PN will remove him from the chairperson position to be replaced with a leader who is wise and with credibility,” he added.

Angry royals

Muhyiddin had ruffled the feathers of the Pahang royal household with his speech during the campaign period for the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan.

During the speech, the PN chairperson touched on the prime minister’s appointment which happened when Pahang ruler Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Following this, Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, who accused Muhyiddin of belittling and disputing the duties of the Agong, urged that he be investigated.

Muhyiddin has since defended his statement and denied that he had insulted the Agong.
