Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin has called for calm amid controversy over its party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s remarks about the Pahang royalty.
While Bersatu’s leadership is still studying the issues surrounding Muhyiddin’s speech which purportedly touched on 3R (race, religion and royalty) matters, Hamzah said it fully entrusts the president to respect the legal process and give his statement to the authorities tomorrow.
“All parties are urged to remain calm and pray to Allah for this matter to be resolved amicably,” he said in a brief statement today.
Hamzah (above) is also the Perikatan Nasional secretary-general but is issuing the statement in his capacity as Bersatu secretary-general.
This came after PN assemblypersons in Pahang, led by state opposition leader and PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, backed Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah’s call for police to take action on Muhyiddin over a speech he gave during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.
Muhyiddin’s claim
Police are expected to record Muhyiddin’s statement tomorrow about the speech he made while on the Nenggiri by-election campaign trail.
Muhyiddin Yassin
Based on a video of his speech, Muhyiddin purportedly claimed he had the support of 115 MPs following the 15th general election to form a new government, but his bid was thwarted by Pahang’s Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who was the reigning Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the time.
Tengku Hassanal accused Muhyiddin of manipulating facts to claim the Pahang ruler was biased, and that his statement is ‘very dangerous’ because it incites people to lose faith in the Malay rulers.
His private secretary has lodged a police report against Muhyiddin.
In his defence, Muhyiddin said yesterday that his speech was a statement of fact and was not intended to insult the royal institution or incite sedition.
Earlier today, Bersatu Youth lodged a police report accusing PKR mouthpiece Suara Keadilan of supposedly doctoring clips of Muhyiddin’s speech to tarnish his reputation.
Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal also reiterated Muhyiddin’s claim that he was merely stating the facts.
