Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is to contact the president of Iran and representatives of Hamas as part of peace negotiations to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He said his efforts were requested by Qatar’s prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who is also foreign minister, to facilitate peace negotiations, enforce the ceasefire, and expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said he had held a phone conversation with Sheikh Mohammed this afternoon, about the latest developments in the Middle East, where negotiations are being held to bring about a ceasefire in Israel’s military assault on the Gaza Strip.

He said he had expressed Malaysia’s full support for Qatar’s decision to prioritise addressing the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
