“Let this horrible nightmare with MUDA be a lesson for PH,” says Amanah Youth

MUDA’s decision to retract their support for the unity government should serve as a lesson for Pakatan Harapan (PH), especially Amanah.

Amanah Youth exco Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda said the party led by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman ought to be punished for their constant criticism of the unity government.

“Youths are fed up with politicians who are hungry for power.

“PH’s top leaders must be firmer in making any decision regarding the handing over of any seat, particularly that held by Amanah, to any other party, especially a new party,” Fadhli Umar was reported as saying by Utusan Malaysia today (Sept 11).

“Hopefully, this horrible nightmare with a party that has forgotten who they will be an important lesson for all of us, especially Amanah.”

Yesterday (Sept 10), Syed Saddiq announced that Muda has dropped out of the unity government after publicly expressing dissatisfaction with the abrupt halt of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s trial on corruption charges.

MUDA has just one elected lawmaker and its move to quit will not affect the government alliance’s stability but could deny Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a two-thirds majority in parliament, which is a necessity for passing constitutional amendments and other key reforms.

The Muar MP stated that that the issue has been notified to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, via a letter handed in yesterday (Sept 10).

Commenting on PH’s victory in the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections, Fadhli Umar said the results proved that the people of Johor rejected the communal politics that has become the approach of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“This is a clear indication that Johoreans reject any form of divisive efforts and racial sentiments that PN frequently deploys.

“This includes the act of riding on religion rhetoric to the point of issuing misleading fatwas,” Fadhli Umar remarked.

The by-elections for the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat in Johor ended on Saturday (Sept 9) with PH-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) unity coalition emerging victorious.

PH candidates Suhaizan Kaiat won with a majority of 18,641 votes defeating PN’s Zulkifli Jaafar and independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.

In Simpang Jeram, located near Muar in north-west Johor, a non-urban seat, Nazri Abdul Rahman, who is also Bakri Amanah division deputy chief, defended the seat with a larger majority of 3,514 in comparison to the 2022 Johor state election results where the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin defended the seat with a 2,399 majority.

The by-election for the Pulai parliamentary seat and the Simpang Jeram state assembly seat was held following the death of the incumbent, Salahuddin, who was also the domestic trade and cost of living minister on July 23. – Sept 11, 2023
