PETALING JAYA: Wanita DAP chief Chong Eng has dismissed links with a former assemblywoman said to have undergone a same-sex marriage.
Chong said the unity government does not support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
She said the woman in question is understood to have relocated to the US after leaving Malaysia several years ago and no longer represented DAP, having retired from politics.
“We also have no knowledge about (her personal matters) after she left Malaysia,” she said, according to Berita Harian.
“But I want to stress that the government of the day does not support the LGBT community, so don’t use this issue as a political ploy,” she told Pakatan Harapan’s rivals.
Social media had been abuzz over the ex-assembly member, formerly of DAP, after photographs of her and her foreign partner were widely shared. The Penang Islamic religious council later said it would investigate the matter.
