Hamzah: My police friends say PN front runner in S'gor
Opposition chief Hamzah Zainudin claimed that he still received some intelligence about the upcoming state polls from his "friends in Royal Malaysia Police".
Speaking at a Perikatan Nasional ceramah last night, the former home minister bragged that the friends had purportedly fed him with information about PN actually leading in Selangor.
This was contrary to what caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari's claim that Pakatan Harapan is the front runner, Hamzah (above) told the crowd in Tanjong Karang.
"Today I heard Amirudin saying that they (Harapan) are confident that they are still leading. That is what Amirudin claimed.
"I am a former home minister. I still have many friends in the Royal Malaysia Police.
"They told me that what Amirudin said was not from their report. The original report, as Ahmad Yunus Hairi said earlier, is that PN is still the front runner in Selangor and insha-Allah, we will win in this election," he said.
Yunus is incumbent PAS Sijangkang representative, and also the Kuala Langat MP and Selangor PAS commissioner.
Hamzah, who is PN secretary-general, spoke during the launching of PN election machinery for Permatang and Sungai Burong state constituencies.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Bukit Aman and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for comments on Hamzah's claim.
The Larut MP also claimed this was why Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has allegedly started to worry about losing to PN.
"The prime minister used to be very arrogant, he went everywhere with guns blazing (attacking PN).
"But yesterday, his tone changed. He has started begging (for support) because he can feel that (Harapan) is losing," he said.
Hamzah was appointed as home minister in March 2020 and held the position until October 2022, when the Dewan Rakyat was dissolved to make way for the 15th general election.
