SHAH ALAM, June 12 — Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today said that the state assembly will not be dissolved in the coming weeks.

He said June 19 would signal his fifth year in office but that didn’t mean he would call for its dissolution.

“Yes, June 19 would be the exact day I hit five years since I was appointed as the person to lead Selangor. This may excite a lot of people who may think I will call for a dissolution on the 19th.

“Well I want to say here that we won’t do it on the 19th,” he said today during a meet and greet between Selangor public servants and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Thus far the Penang government plans to dissolve its state legislative assembly on June 28 to pave the way for state elections.

The present term of the Penang state legislative assembly will automatically expire on August 2 if not dissolved earlier.

The state election must be held within 60 days of the assembly’s dissolution.

Apart from Penang, the Pakatan Harapan-held Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, as well as the PAS-led Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu also decided not to hold their state elections at the same time as the 15th general election in November last year.

The full term for the state legislative assembly in all these states will come to an end this year, meaning all six must hold their elections this year.
