Zahid distances BN from Lokman's 'biawak hidup' jibe

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has distanced the coalition from Umno supreme council member Lokman Adam’s remarks labelling MCA and MIC as biawak hidup (dead weight).

Zahid (above, left) asserted that BN top brass does not endorse the “personal opinions” voiced by Lokman.

“We feel that we should not entertain opinions of that individual (Lokman) as it will be perceived that there is no unity (in BN).

“We uphold the official stance of the main leadership of every party in BN and every party in Pakatan Harapan,” Zahid said after officiating the 23rd FBI National Academy Associates Asia Pacific Chapter Conference at the Sunway Resort Hotel in Selangor.

Lokman had referred to MCA and MIC as a dead weight while commenting on how the two Umno allies have not been contributing to BN's performance at the polls.

As such he said MCA and MIC have to prove that they still command the support of the non-Malays before contesting in the upcoming state elections.

This prompted backlash from MCA and MIC, with MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker dubbing Lokman a “DAP spokesperson”.

MCA Youth secretary-general Daniel Wa

MCA Youth secretary-general Daniel Wa had urged the party to give the upcoming state polls a miss to teach those who are now "friends" with DAP a lesson.

In response to Wa, Zahid said such statements should not be brought up as BN component parties are in a critical situation now that the state elections are fast approaching.

“I want to thank all the top leaders of MIC, MCA, and PBRS who have agreed to work along with us in the upcoming state elections.

“The cooperation between BN and Harapan is at its best so far,” he added.
