'Uphold religion, God will protect' - Zahid hints of 'evil plot'
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today reminded the management of government-owned Felcra Berhad to uphold their religious beliefs to be protected by God.
In a speech during an event at Wisma Felcra in Kuala Lumpur, he mentioned a story of how some people tried to paint a certain individual in a bad light, aiming to take that person down.
However, that “evil plot” failed as the person was protected by Allah, he said.
“It doesn’t matter even when negative stories about ourselves are being peddled to bring us down.
“This was just an evil plot by someone, or a group of people, who wanted to bring down an institution or organisation according to the domino effect theory.
“But the plan clearly failed. Because when we uphold the religion of Allah, I am sure that Allah will protect us. I am sure of this,” he told the audience.

Zahid, who is also the rural and regional development minister, delivered his speech after receiving a briefing from Felcra CEO Mat Roni Zakaria on the company’s structure, business ventures, and transformation.
While he did not provide any context for the story, it was believed Zahid was alluding to a recent attempt by his rivals to topple him from the position of Umno president.
The story came about in his speech as Zahid was telling Felcra management members to be trustworthy, transparent, and honest in carrying out their duties.

Meanwhile, at the same event, the Bagan Datuk MP also called for Felcra to support the government in ensuring food security for the country.
After listening to Mat Roni’s briefing, Zahid said the corporation has the resources to intensify the production of more agricultural and food-based products for the country.
Speaking at a press conference after the event, he said food security has been identified as an area that Felcra has to focus on.

“What Felcra has done so far has yielded good results. However, this has to be intensified.
“(Felcra has) to focus on producing primary agricultural products and livestock, so they can add to the country’s supply of meat and protein-based food.
“At the same time, it can also produce livestock feed for the domestic market, so we no longer have to depend on imported products,” Zahid said.
The aim is for Felcra to ensure the country’s food security in four years, he said, adding that this will also help Malaysia control its currency’s outflow.
On another matter, Zahid told reporters that he has ordered the Rural and Regional Development Ministry to take immediate action on recommendations made in the Auditor-General’s Report 2021.
While there were not many cases of leakages under the ministry, he said they would act upon all recommendations made in the report with a focus on corruption-related issues.
“We will focus on addressing issues in the report, in case there are leakages, misappropriation, abuse of power, or any such problems,” he said.
