Tian Chua slams PKR for announcing sacking to media first

Tian Chua says he has not decided if he will appeal his sacking from PKR.

PETALING JAYA: Former PKR vice-president Tian Chua has hit out at the party for announcing his sacking to the media before notifying him about his dismissal.

In a Facebook post today, he said PKR disciplinary committee chairman Tan Yee Kew acted “unprofessionally” and “impolitely”.

The former Batu MP admitted feeling some sadness and disappointment over his sacking, having been with the Anwar Ibrahim-led party for more than two decades.

He reiterated that he took full responsibility for contesting against the party in the 15th general election (GE15) for the Batu seat and had always been prepared to face the consequences for his actions.

“I joined the Reformasi struggle in 1998 with the sole motive of bringing democratic change to this country. Today, I am proud to see that all the years of effort were not in vain. I have no regrets over every single minute spent in the struggle.

“Nevertheless, in the context of post-GE15, rival parties have put aside hostilities during the elections. Even long-term enemies have declared a truce and agreed to cooperate in forming the unity government.

“However, without disputing the authority of the (PKR) leadership, harsh measures in enforcing (party) rules seem to contradict the ethos of reconciliation and inclusivity in the current political environment,” he said.

He promised his supporters that he will not be taking a backseat in pushing for reforms in the country, adding that the nation still faced “a lot of challenges”.

Contacted by FMT, Tian Chua said he had yet to decide if he will appeal his sacking from PKR.

He said he needed time to think the matter over, reiterating that he was caught off-guard since his sacking was announced to the media first.

Yesterday, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Tian Chua may submit an appeal against his dismissal within 14 days.

Tian Chua and four other PKR members were sacked for contesting in GE15 and in the Sarawak state election in December 2021 as independents or on the ticket of other parties without the party’s consent.

The other four are Puah Chee Haur, from the party’s Parit Buntar division, Ahmad Tarmizi Ghazali (Gopeng), M Mohganan (Taiping) and Nur Khairunisa Abdullah (Sadong Jaya).
