MCA not opportunistic, won’t do anything just to gain power, says Ti
MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker said the party will not resort to making false promises and allegations or even slander their opponents.
PETALING JAYA: MCA are not an opportunistic party that will try anything for the sake of securing power but will instead remain true to its principles, says party vice-president Ti Lian Ker.
Ti said the party will not resort to making false promises and allegations or even slander their opponents in a bid to return to power.
“MCA are not political opportunists and will not be guided by political expediency just to come into power.
“We are consistent in defending the rights of all races in accordance with the Federal Constitution,” he said in a statement.
“We are independent and will continue to move forward as a party that fights for moderation.”
Ti was responding to remarks made by political analyst Awang Azman Pawi, as reported by FMT, who advised MCA to curry favour with DAP so as to be in a good position to negotiate for winnable seats in the state elections to be held this year.
Awang Azman said MCA had no choice but to work with DAP to remain relevant since Barisan Nasional (BN) was now part of Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government. MCA, along with Umno and MIC, are the three core BN components while DAP is a member of Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Ti said the party will continue to support Anwar’s administration for the sake of political stability.
Noting that MCA only won two parliamentary seats at the recent general election (GE15), he said the party must learn from other parties, such as PKR, who won only one seat at the general election in 2004 but were now leading the government.
MCA’s two MPs are Wee Ka Siong (Ayer Hitam) and Wee Jeck Seng (Tanjung Piai).
During the Muhyiddin Yassin and Ismail Sabri Yaakob administrations, Ka Siong was the transport minister while Jeck Seng was the deputy minister of plantation industries and commodities.
The current Cabinet does not include anyone from MCA or MIC.
