MACC nabs 2 over RM20mil false claims in cattle project

The two suspects were arrested in Kedah and Johor.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two men to facilitate investigations into false claims totalling RM20.3 million in connection with incentive payments for a livestock project in 2015.

Quoting sources, Bernama reported that the first suspect, a 51-year-old company director, was detained at the Kedah MACC office at about 1pm when he turned up to give his statement.

The other suspect, who is the owner of a separate company, was arrested at the Simpang Renggam rest and service area in Johor at 3pm.

“The arrests were made following information that several companies were believed to have submitted false claims to the department of veterinary services in 2015 in relation to incentive payments for the dairy cattle farming project,” said the source.

The project is under the Entry Point Project 13-Dairy Cluster programme of the Economic Transformation Plan.

The remand application for the two individuals will be made tomorrow to assist in the investigation under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

Kedah MACC director Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap confirmed the arrests when contacted.

  1. Remember Shahrizat Jalil's husband and children and their notorious Cow Condos?
Looks like lifestock projects in Malaysia are fertile ground for abuse of power and misappropriation of Government funds.

The Government keeps trying to fund such projects, which is in a way understandable, as Malaysia is too highly dependent on imported beef, and locally produced beef has poor output and not of high quality, but they keep failing.
Just too many vultures hovering around waiting for their pickings instead of actually trying to grow some cattle.
