KUALA LUMPUR: Disciplinary action may be taken against Khairy Jamaluddin after he claimed that dirty tactics had been employed to ensure there is no contest for Umno’s two top posts.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the matter will be brought to the party’s disciplinary committee.

Khairy had claimed earlier today that the motion to bar contests for the posts of party president and deputy president would most likely be bulldozed through when it came up for a vote.

In a TikTok video, the former Rembau MP alleged that name tags on the chairs of delegates had been removed, allegedly to bring “imported delegates” to push through the motion.

Khairy’s claims were dismissed by Zahid at a press conference after the general assembly. “How can delegates enter if they don’t have a pass?” he said.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan also dismissed a swipe that Khairy had taken at him as the no-contest motion was proposed yesterday by a delegate from the Rembau division in Negeri Sembilan, which is led by Mohamad.

Khairy said Mohamad should have done it more discreetly if he had wanted to bring forth such a motion. “What happened to you, Mat Hasan?” he said.

However, Mohamad said he was unaware that the motion would be proposed. “I didn’t know anything,” he said at the same press conference with Zahid.

Umno information chief Isham Jalil had earlier denied the claim about the passes, saying that Khairy should be aware that delegates attending the general assembly know each other.

The party’s general assembly passed the motion to bar contests for Umno’s presidency and deputy presidency through a voice vote. This ensures that Zahid and Mohamad Hasan will not be challenged at the party elections, which must be held by May 19.
