Dusun Tua rep blasts Harapan colleague over quarry trucks route
Dusun Tua assemblyperson Edry Faizal has lambasted a Pakatan Harapan colleague over the latter’s solution concerning a route used by lorries transporting crushed rocks from a nearby quarry.
Taking to Twitter, the DAP lawmaker said that Kajang assemblyperson Hee Loy Sian’s action to solve the issue was “unfair”.
“Quarrying is state revenue but does not allow (sic) lorries to use local roads (which fall under the state government). Ask to use the Hulu Langat road (which falls under federal jurisdiction).
“Would the Hulu Langat road not face the same problem? Are the people of this constituency not equal to the people (of Kajang)?" Edry (above, left) asked while sharing a screenshot of a Selangorkini report dated Jan 5.
In the report, Hee (top picture, right) was quoted saying that lorries transporting rocks from the quarry would be prohibited from using the Persiaran Mahkota Cheras 1 route in Bandar Mahkota Cheras effective immediately to ensure the safety of the residents there.
Hee said the move would also address complaints about traffic and damaged roads in the area. He proposed the lorries use the nearby Hulu Langat road as an alternative.
“The problems have been ongoing for the last five years. Accidents, including fatal ones, keep happening and the roads need to be frequently fixed,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the Kajang Municipal Council has to fork out RM2 million yearly to fix the damaged roads.
According to Hee, about 100 30-tonne lorries ply the road on a daily basis, although initially permit was only given to two-tonne lorries.
“Four quarries are permitted to operate in the area, and (lorries from) three quarries use the Hulu Langat road, while only trucks from one quarry use the Bandar Mahkota Cheras route.”
