BN files election petitions alleging bribery in 3 seats

Barisan Nasional has filed petitions to overturn the results of three parliamentary elections in November.

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional has filed election petitions to challenge the parliamentary elections in three constituencies in November.

Umno information chief Isham Jalil said: “We have solid evidence that election offences have been committed, especially in terms of bribing the voters.” He did not disclose the constituencies, saying that the names would be announced later.

He said more petitions would be filed later involving several other constituencies.

In Kota Bharu, former Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah filed a petition to challenge the 2022 elections in his former constituency.

The petition, filed by Azmi Mahmood on behalf of Tengku Razaleigh on Jan 3, named the winning MP, Azizi Abu Naim of Perikatan Nasional, as well as the returning officer, Ab Fatah Hasbullah, and the Election Commission as the respondents.

Tengku Razaleigh failed to defend the seat after 12 terms when he lost by a slim majority of 163 votes.
