DAP slams PAS plan to redraw boundaries to benefit Malay-Muslim community
Lim Guan Eng said ‘justice-loving Malaysian’ would reject Khairuddin Aman Razali’s proposal.
PETALING JAYA: DAP has described PAS’ proposal to redraw election boundaries to benefit the Malay-Muslim community as an admission the Perikatan Nasional-led government will “gerrymander constituencies” at the expense of others.
kt note: I wonder whether Allah swt allows such electoral 'cheating', but obviously PAS does
Its secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng, said the proposal by PAS’ Khairuddin Aman Razali was “divisive and irresponsible” and would “discriminate, deprive and deny the rights of non-Malays and non-Muslims”.
Khairuddin, the plantation industries and commodities minister, had said in a Facebook post that if PN won the general election with a two-thirds majority, changes to election boundaries to benefit Malay-Muslims could be made, as well as increasing the number of parliamentary seats in Malay-majority states.
kt note: Khairuddin indicates he'll treat non-Muslims the way Israelis are treating Palestinians - but then, isn't Khairuddin supposed to be a Muslim, or is he an Israeli?
“We can achieve this goal by strengthening the alliance (among) the three Malay parties, despite the obstacles. Straight fights are important in order to win GE15,” he said.
In a statement today, Lim said the suggestion on redrawing electoral boundaries based on race and religion was unconstitutional, and would be rejected by “all right-thinking and justice-loving Malaysians”.

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will stand in the 15th General Election with Barisan Nasional and ensure that the coalition continues its path of inclusiveness, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said the party will also join forces with others, when necessary, to strengthen the voices of multiculturalism, moderation and defend this very system in the country.
“Barisan is a political coalition formed by MCA, Umno and MIC.
“From its establishment, we have gone through storms and struggles. We have gone through thick and thin in an ever-changing political environment.
“The multiculturalism, moderation, and inclusiveness that Barisan pursues and practises are in line with MCA’s approach.
“Therefore, in the coming general election, MCA will continue to stand in the elections with Barisan Nasional to ensure Barisan Nasional continues its path of inclusiveness, ” he said when opening the party’s 67th annual general meeting at Wisma MCA here on Sunday (March 7).
Dr Wee said MCA has always given its best in pushing for political development and played its role as the agent of muhibbah to maintain good inter-racial relations in the government.
“We are always speaking the truth and solving ethnic issues pragmatically.
“When we were the opposition, we ensured that we played our role in check-and-balance well to protect the people’s interests, ” he said.
Dr Wee also called for the Chinese community’s support to ensure their voices are heard in Parliament and state assemblies to avoid being marginalised.
“I sincerely hope that the Chinese community will give us an opportunity by not putting all eggs in one basket but instead, allow a balanced political development between the ruling coalition and the opposition.
“This is to make sure there will not be a situation whereby all other ethnic groups are present in the government, except for the Chinese.
“This will prevent the Chinese community from being marginalised in the country’s mainstream politics, ” he said.
