This is a story of yin and yang - the balance of good and evil!
OK, the Israeli settlers in Gaza are pretty upset about having to pull out from there, but what they did was so sickening that they even revolted their own people. These fanatical rightwing arseholes – call them the Jewish Talibans if you like - mentally transported themselves back to biblical times to pick up a barbaric ritual, and having done so, attempted to stone to death a Palestinian youth.
What they additionally committed was a disgrace – they spray-painted "Mohammed is a pig" on the exterior wall of a building, in a sinister tactic to provoke the Palestinian Muslims – which is a typical Israeli tactic (any provocation) to elicit a violent response from the easily aroused Palestinians that would then put them in a bad light to the world. The aim was also to suck in military intervention, and delay the pullout.
But forget about the Josiah-like atrocity – those arseholes are no better than the Talibans or Osama bin Laden.
What is most significant and heart-warming has been the following report:
A [Israeli] soldier knelt over the youth in an attempt to protect him from being hit by more rocks, but footage screened on Israeli television showed several Jewish youths running up and hurling rocks from point-blank range as others shouted "kill him".
I salute the soldier for his honour, bravery, and chivalry, just as I had saluted the three good US Army aviators, the heros of My Lai, pilot Hugh Thompson, door gunner Lawrence Colburn and crew chief Glenn Andreotta for the same values.
Several Israeli reporters, putting aside their notebooks, ran up and dragged the unconscious Palestinian youth to safety. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
I salute too these reporters for doing the right thing.
The ugly biblical scene of wild fanatics throwing stones to kill someone has been such a disgraceful exhibition of unmitigated intolerance that it even disgusted normally stoic Israeli TV news readers.
But out of these atrocities, those acts of the good samaritans have been illuminating.
I think you'd be drawing a rather long bow to connect the fanatical Jewish Right and the correctness of Adolf Hitler's genicidal crimes.
ReplyDeleteThose Jews murdered in Germany were not today's rabid rabbis, the born-again Judeans, so to speak. Some were actually German soldiers who fougt valiantly alongside Corporal Adolf Hitler during WW I.
But I agree with you that there are frightening Jewish Talibans in Israel who have been allowed out of Pandora's Box or Solomon's genie bottle.
