Anwar Ibrahim's greatest fear

Anwar Ibrahim's greatest fear is that people will forget him.

I
suspect that has been why he has decided to represent himself in the RM100m suit against Nalla so that he keeps himself in the public eye, wakakaka.

And that too has been why his wife, daughters and supporters have frequently raised issues about him, such as nominating him for the Nobel Prize.

Mind you, this proposed nomination might not be a wasted effort as the Norwegian committee for the Nobel Peace Prize has been known to be controversial in awarding the Prize to unexpected people.

Anyway, a kaytee poem for Anwar Ibrahim, wakakaka:

Oh I used to float like a butterfly
and sting like a bee, nay, tebuan*
I can't accept my political goodbye
It's cruel to make me sing like a swan

* being formerly UMNO, wakakaka

Headless chook PKR going helter skelter?

Malaysiakini - Harapan will not cooperate with PAS-Ikatan in S'wak, says Guan Eng

Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) has no intention of entering into any cooperation with the new opposition bloc of PAS and National Alliance Party (Ikatan) to face the state elections in Sarawak.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the basis of cooperation with PAS no longer existed when the party did not adhere to the opposition pact's principle and direction.

He said trust was important between allies but the previous DAP-PAS crisis had resulted in DAP not trusting its erstwhile ally.

But my dear YM, how will you then deal with a coalition partner like PKR, the taxi sapu which wants to cooperate with not only PAS-Ikatan but allegedly also UMNO?

See FMT - PKR may work with PAS-Ikatan pact (extracts):

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) does not dismiss the possibility of cooperating with the new political block, the PAS-Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) pact, if both parties share the same struggle.

and

On Sunday 13 March 2016 the Star Online published (extracts):

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is willing to team up with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in order to "Save Malaysia", says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Standing wide astride with a foot each on two different sampans going in different directions seems to be the norm of taxi sapu a la kaki k'nui kang kang

DAP should amputate gangrenous taxi sapu

FMT - PKR may work with PAS-Ikatan pact (extracts):

what about Parti Cinta Malaysia and Ayah Pin's Teh-Kor party?

wakakaka

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) does not dismiss the possibility of cooperating with the new political block, the PAS-Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) pact, if both parties share the same struggle.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party’s focus was the interests of the people and country.

I don't understand this so-called president of PKR but wait, on 2nd thoughts, I actually do, wakakaka.

PAS has avowed enmity with DAP and Amanah, and vice versa, and she as the so-called leader of a party which is in a coalition with DAP and Amanah (Pakatan Harapan) still wants to work with PAS?

Memang taxi sapu yang paling jelek.

On Sunday 13 March 2016 the Star Online published (extracts):

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is willing to team up with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in order to "Save Malaysia", says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The PKR president, however, said there would have to be set terms and conditions to for the co-operation to work and to bring progress to the country.

So desu ne, please tell me which political party doesn't claim it works for the people (voters, wakakaka) and would bring progress to the country?

But since then, Azmin Ali has leapt in to refute that report of PKR-UMNO collaboration, saying Wan Azizah had said PKR was willing to work with anybody committed to the reform though she didn't mention any particular party.

Oh? "PKR was willing to work with anybody ..." - doesn't that indirectly confirms the Star Online report?

When queried by reporters, Wan Azizah acted like MCA-Gerakan a la mute being stung by a tebuan, wakakaka, though she swiftly walked away. Cabut-ed? Wakakaka.

This leads us to consider a few questions on Malaysia's infamous 'taxi sapu' (note I haven't employ the k...-k... word out of respect for her):

Firstly, is Wan Azizah fit and politically competent to be the leader of Pakatan Harapan?

Secondly, what sort of coalition partner would PKR be to Pakatan Harapan when it is willing to work with an avowed enemy of Pakatan Harapan, namely, PAS?

Thirdly, despite the recent signing of a new Pakatan so-called concordant, how does one explain PKR's unilateral announcement (meaning, without consultation nor agreement with its coalition partners) that it will contest 40 seats in Sarawak's coming state election with 15 seats including Batu Kitang being 'non-negotiable'.

Unilateral announcement; 'non-negotiable' - Wow, what a wonderful start to and an example of PKR's 'agreeing but disagreeing' with the new Pakatan consensus agreement, wakakaka.

By the by, Batu Kitang is a new state constituency under the new federal constituency of Stampin with this constituency being a highly dense Chinese majority area a la the Kapar formula of sardine-izing unfriendly-to-BN voters into a tin can to merit only one representative, wakakaka.

Nonetheless, PKR must have believe it can win this seat as with 14 others, hence they've become in PKR's green-eyed monster self, non-negotiable, wakakaka.

But I've no doubt DAP Sarawak will have a different opinion (which alas for LKS, he can do f**kall with the locals' wish).

Note: DAP currently holds 12 state seats after it last contested 15, while PKR holds 3 after it contested 49, wakakaka again.

After our dear Jayakumar, denied an exco position in Selangor because the former MB Khalid Ibrahim favoured Eli Wong instead, wakakaka, after staking PKR's unilateral claim to 40 seats including the 15 non-negotiable seats, pronounced:

“We signed the agreement, and in it, agreed to do our best to fight one-on-one. I don’t see why there should be any overlapping of seats, and we will hold firm to the agreement.”

To be fair to him he was probably reading Nurul Izzah's speech, wakakaka. Frankly, he was more hopeful than confident because he in typical PKR habit neglected to mention that PKR has already and UNILATERALLY laid claim to what its greedy lil' monster-like avarice wants - what cock of a signed agreement was he talking about?

Stampin has almost 3 times the number of voters than friendly-to-PBB Batu Sadong, the latter presumably the Putrajaya-like constituency of Sarawak, wakakaka or should it be like what my matey Dean Johns had once titled one of his articles, to wit, 'Sarawakakaka'.

I think Ah Jib Gor via the EC has been slyly shoring up his 'fixed deposit'.

Anyway, back to the pronouncement of Jayakumar (on behalf of Nurul Izzah) - This has been a PKR f**king habit, that of making unilateral press announcement while seizing the lion's share of seats without any consultation with its coalition partners, and expecting them to succumb to its ketuanan Melayu pre-eminence.

Additionally, with special regards to Sarawak, the announcement was made by a West Malaysian PKR leader (not Baru Bian), namely, Xavier Jayakumar (substituting for Nurul Izzah who was denied entry into Sarawakakaka), an act which cements the Sarawakian and Sabahan suspicion of PKR's highly Peninsula-centralized/remote-control.

Now, what I'm about to suggest may be unpalatable to Lim Kit Siang who dreams of marching into Putrajaya on a flimsy and questionable coalition which still doesn't have the bloody balls to define its shadow cabinet, but nonetheless I would strongly urge DAP to reconsider that partnership with PKR, to amputate off a gangrenous taxi sapu-like party, to ally itself with only Amanah, and to go for broke against PKR and PAS, meeting the former strongly head on in Penang, Perak, Selangor, NS, FT and Johor as it is likely to be in Sarawak.

There are a few good people in PKR and I would encourage them to take the enlightened path to DAP, as has Dr Bari.

My proposed DAP-Amanah coalition may not take over Putrajaya but it has a very strong chance of holding Penang and even winning Perak, Selangor, NS, federal-seats only FT, and possibly Johor.

Call me an Uber cab please, Sarawakakaka!

Cacing kena abu

Well, you have all heard of ABU as in our recent political campaign (the acronym for 'Anyone But UMNO' or in Malay 'Asal Bukan UMNO', a unique acronym with the same meaning in both the English and Malay languages).

There's a well-known Malay proverb 'cacing kena abu' which literally means 'worm in ashes' with the unmentioned but implied high temperature of the ashes, to wit 'hot ashes'.

Chuck an earth worm into hot ashes and you'll know what this proverb means when applied to a person as someone akin to a 'cacing kena abu'.

This proverbial 'abu' currently has a political context too.

PAS can be said to be like a 'cacing kena abu'. PKR is almost one.

Both parties realize, with PAS being the one affected more, that they'll lose more than a few of their current state seats (especially in Selangor, and for PKR, in Penang) without Chinese support. For more, see my last month's post titled Another Malaysian father-in-law story.

Looks like the Chinese will be blamed again - aiyah, apa lagi Cina mahu? Wakakaka.

PAS is a lost case vis-a-vis Chinese support. That is not to say it'll perish as a political party as it'll continue to have staunch supporters in the Heartland of Kelantan, and perhaps in Kedah. Perlis and Terengganu.

But I suspect it'll lose a significant number of its 15 seats in Selangor. Ikatan won't be able to help it much. I suspect UMNO may well be behind Ikatan's pairing up with PAS.

As for PKR, if the DAP were to go to open war with it (though unlikely in Peninsula because LKS still dreams of being in a coalition which can defeat BN, but a coalition which doesn't have the balls to define its shadow cabinet), PKR will come off worse vis-a-vis the Chinese voters, Tian Chua or not, wakakaka.

And those 4 treacherous PKR Chinese ADUN in Penang will likely disappear like Gerakan like MCA, wakakaka. Good riddance.

Procrastination the thief of time

* post title is from a quote by Edward Young, a 17th Century English poet

Much as I love Lim Kit Siang (yes, I still do though I'm losing more and more of my patience with him for his more recent headless-chook antics), I don't agree with his argument (via Malaysiakini) that 'Asking who’ll be PM after Najib is putting cart before horse'.

Lim KS argued that because Najib is now so strongly entrenched it's unlikely the latter will be deposed and that the campaign of the Citizen's' Declaration is but a small step. He said:

"The road to fundamental political changes in Malaysia is going to be a long and arduous one, with the Citizen’s Declaration of March 4 only being the first step.

"Malaysia is in uncharted political waters and we can only take the political tests and challenges we have assumed with the signing and proclamation of the Citizen’s Declaration one step at a time, fully putting national interests above all racial, religious, regional, party and individual interests.

"As stated in the Citizen’s Declaration to Save Malaysia, the signatories are fully aware that leadership change must be accompanied by democratic and institutional changes or the country would be back to square one."

He sounded reasonable and level-headed BUT ... yes ... but I have had enough of the usual Pakatan's procrastinating tactic of avoiding difficult issues among coalition parties and sweeping the dirt under the carpet, hoping/wishing for the mess to either sort itself out or to disappear.

This has been the reason why Pakatan Rakyat, wonderfully successful as it had been in GE-12 and GE-13, had failed as a long lasting coalition.

The fault lies not only with PAS and PKR (the latter for the Kajang Satay which was the lidi or straw that broke the camel's back (dromedary pun not intended but seemingly appropriate, wakakaka) but indeed also with the DAP, chiefly with those unbelievable clowns sprouting Quranic verses as if they had been already sunat-ized, to the immense delight of Allahyarham Pak Haji Nik Aziz, and to incorrect belief by some in PAS that the DAP would be accommodating of PAS' intention to implement Islamic rule (including hudud).

c'mon, stop exaggerating, it's not a hubby bonking his missus on your back but only a satay lidi from Kajang

Lim GE was also guilty of lending this incorrect belief in PAS by his frequent reference to the enlightened golden rule of Caliph this and that.

Well, perhaps it's okay to refer to Caliph this and that but with the proviso that right at the very start the DAP should have openly and without subterfuge declared it wanted only a secular state much as it admired the rule of Caliph so and so, and to then let PAS decide whether it wanted to continue being a coalition partner.

The late Karpal Singh did that and that had been why allahyarham Pak Haji Nik Aziz saw him as the 'only' obstacle' to Islamic rule, believing the others (mainly the Chinese in DAP) would allow PAS to implement full compliance with syariah laws including its hudud penal code.

Author-poet Don Marquis informed us that procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday. Another Pakatan procrastinating bullshit is the studious avoidance of determining the shadow cabinet. Unless Pakatan does that, it doesn't deserve to present itself as the alternative government.

Yes, admittedly there'll be humongous difficulties as the known Mt-Everest-type greed of one particular component party, wakakaka, will be nearly insurmountable - for more, read my post 'Whispered' shadow cabinet bloated like satiated leech? wakakaka.

dei PAS and DAP, here's your piece to share
I've had mine already; am I generous or what

wakakaka

On 28 November 2008, just before Najib took over from AAB, Malaysiakini reported:

Eighteen civil society organisations today called upon Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to set up a Pakatan Rakyat shadow cabinet as soon as possible to prove that they are ready to govern when the need arises.

They said that Anwar must present his team of shadow ministers not later than his rival Najib Abdul Razak announces his line-up in March.

Najib is set to take over as the prime minister next March following a transition plan agreed with the present Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. [...]

The 18 civil society organisations today said in a statement that it was important for the Pakatan to form a shadow cabinet as it indicated the opposition's readiness to take over the task of governing from the incumbent government.

The organisations said there were three compelling reasons for Pakatan to announce its line-up as soon as possible.

"First, it facilitates division of labour amongst Pakatan parliamentarians and provides stronger check and balance to BN frontbenchers.

"The public has no idea now which Pakatan parliamentarian can speak authoritatively on a particular policy domain like labour, education or environment," they said.

They added that the assignment of portfolios would also enhance the participation of civil society and individual citizens in public policy formulation.

Secondly, they argued, that a shadow cabinet also helped to consolidate the policy position of Pakatan component parties.

"This would reduce public confusion which often happens now when the parties contradict each other in public," they said.

And finally, the 18 argued that a shadow cabinet can help both synchronise some common policies of the five Pakatan-ruled states and coordinate the federal and state branches of Pakatan coalition.

They said that the public deserved to know the Pakatan policies on preservation of water catchment area, on access to public information and on local elections.

"We call upon Anwar to make formation of shadow cabinet his top priority from now to March 2009.

"Nearly nine month after the March elections, Pakatan which has vowed to take over the federal executive power via crossover of BN parliamentarians must now be prepared to show that they are not only interested to govern, but able to do so," they said.

Anwar of course avoided the issue like taking an oath on the Quran, with Pakatan finally side-stepping this most vital formation (for any credible alternative government) by having committees (of 3, one from each Pakatan component party) to look after a portfolio. And would that have been followed by a ridiculous 3 ministers for each ministerial portfolio?

Pakatan's Home Minister?

That was avoiding a basic requirement for an alternative government thus how could anyone take Pakatan Rakyat seriously, nor will they Pakatan Harapan.

Pakatan's inability to work as a cohesive coalition was witnessed in the choice of MB after the Kajang f**kup and also in the Sarawak state election lineup (past and future) - expect 3-corner fights involving PKR and DAP.

In Gulf War II the USA did not plan for 'the morning after' following the deposing of Saddam Hussein and look at the total f**kup in Iraq today including the rise of ISIS. Similarly the Europeans, especially Britain and France, made the same mistake in Libya after Gaddafi was deposed.

So, YB Lim Kit Siang, do you still believe there needn't be any plan for who shall be the new PM or what kind of government administers Malaysia after deposing Najib?

Such remiss is totally irresponsible.

Goodbye to The Malaysian Insider

A farewell message from its Editor Jahabar Sadiq:

Goodbye readers from near and far, and those reading us in Malaysia despite the government block.

The Edge Media Group has decided to shut down The Malaysian Insider from midnight today, for commercial reasons. Perhaps it is fitting that we go offline at the start of the Ides of March. I hope we have served you well since our first day of going live on February 25, 2008. And I hope others will continue to serve you in our absence.

We worked as impartial journalists to inform Malaysians and other readers so that they make informed decisions. We worked to make all voices heard in this marketplace of ideas. But our work in The Malaysian Insider has now come to an end in a Malaysia that more than ever requires more clarity, transparency and information.

All said and done, I want to thank everyone of you in Malaysia, around the world, and those who have been with The Malaysian Insider from day one until now for your support, well wishes and criticism during these fantastic eight years and 18 days of The Malaysian Insider.

I won’t put down my pen, I won’t lay down my camera, I won’t shut up and I won’t be blinkered or turn a deaf ear to what goes on in Malaysia and the world. And I urge all of you to do the same. And I shall always be the biggest fan of this news portal called The Malaysian Insider.

Goodbye.

The Editor

Sad to see it go as I've enjoyed reading its news and articles.

TMI had earlier suffered a major loss of staff when many left to form the new Malay Mail Online (which is different and separate from the Malay Mail, the latter being run by an UMNO man).

Secret of a cooked egg left overnight

NGOs distancing themselves from Maria Chin Abdullah

Late last year on 06 October I posted The woman who would be king ... maker? in which I lamented Maria Chin Abdullah taking the politically neutral BERSIH a la Star Trek to places where the NGO on fair & clean elections has never gone before.

In fact, in 2013 when she took over BERSIH she was reported as follows:

Maria agrees that Bersih's struggles are similar to that of Pakatan Rakyat, but said that it remains independent.

"We have invited Barsian Nasional to join us. Unfortunately, they see us as the enemy. We are giving them constructive feedback on how we can improve together. They do not accept it because it challenges their power base, so they resort to poor tactics. They defame you. They deny you media space. They brand you and they sue you. That is not the behaviour of a mature government.”

Is BERSIH today, under Maria Chin Abdullah, as independent as she had claimed 3 years ago? Malaysian mudah lupa?

And would anyone blame BN for refusing to support BERSIH

Regrettably Maria Chin Abdullah has become like Lim KS, my one-time hero and icon, frenetic frenzied frantic headless chooks running around without clear directions.

Both are running around desperately allying themselves with all and sundry to depose Najib including (a) the man who incarcerated LKS for 17 months in 1987 under Ops Lalang (admittedly Anwar Ibrahim as Education Minister started the issue which led to Ops Lalang), who he (LKS) had severely lambasted for making the 929 and 617 Declarations, who had previously condemned BERSIH, and (b) the MACC who is yet to answer for the strange death (or murder) of Teoh Beng Hock at MACC Headquarters, etc.

Like Lim KS, Maria Chin was said to have allegedly forgiven Mahathir for his wrongs during his PM days. I wonder whether Maria Chin remembers the Sabah elections 1994 (admittedly Anwar Ibrahim was BN director of elections there) and that infamous Ops IC in Sabah (when the Royal Commission showed one Melayu mudah lupa).

Anyway, back to BERSIH - many NGOs endorsing BERSIH have distanced themselves from Maria Chin, saying she did it on her own and not on behalf of BERSIH and that BERSIH will not participate in any of Mahathir's Citizens' protests.

The term 'distanced themselves' means they don't want to be associated with Maria Chin's bizarre support of Mahathir.

Really, I can't blame them, Any neutral party could see easily that Mahathir has promoted the so-called Citizens' Declaration for his own (his sons') interests and not for reforms or democracy. I can understand Azmin Ali and PKR supporting Mahathir but why would Lim KS and Maria Chin?

As my visitor bruno would exclaim "Go figure". Wakakaka.

Headless chooks? Wakakaka again.

which way?

this way, no no, that way, no no never mind, any way lah!

When will Najib sack Muhyiddin?

TMI - Muhyiddin mulls tabling no-confidence vote against Najib, says daily (extracts):

The Malay daily reported that Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh MP, admitted the attempt might be difficult because there were too many lawmakers unwilling to support it, as the move required majority support.

“It is one of it (the no-confidence motion), if the numbers are enough to bring change, but I foresee that it will be difficult because the MPs are not ready or brave enough to do it, unlike those in more advanced countries."

“In Malaysia, the culture of political patriotism runs deep. Cash is king and it answers all questions."

“We have 222 seats in Parliament and we need 112 to achieve simple majority to make a change."

Note last sentence above - Muhyiddin has been referring to a no-confidence motion in the federal parliament, not the UMNO party.

I can't remember when a sitting member of a ruling party has ever passed a no-confidence motion in parliament against his own party leader. This is overt rebellion against his own party chief, wakakaka.

Did that happen to former MB Khalid Ibrahim in Selangor, that was, prior to him being booted out from PKR? Of course not, because it would have opened the Pakatan state government to probable fresh re-elections.

If my memory serves me well, Muhyiddin's mulling on moving against PM Najib, his own party leader, in parliament via a combination of BN and Pakatan votes which by parliamentary convention would also be against the BN majority ruling party, may be considered as an unprecedented intention.

Then this will be a first, a Malaysian first to be recorded in Mahathir's Book of Malaysian Records, wakakaka, and should be to Pakatan Harapan's delight.

Indeed, once that's done, Pakatan should seek HM the Agong's agreement to dissolve parliament since a majority has passed a no-confidence motion against the Najib's government, and therefore there is a need to re-seek the people's preference via a fresh general election.

Given this, I wonder what's keeping Ah Jib Gor from sacking Muhyiddin and Mukhriz from UMNO for their overt and wilful insubordination to their own party leader and thus party discipline?

Najib, unlike Mahathir, is notorious for his reluctance and heels-dragging in confronting his own party rebels but let's face it, there's a snowflake chance in hell of reconciliation between him and Muhyiddin or for that matter, with Mahathir/Mukhriz, so Ah Jib Gor needn't cater for that impossible dream.

If we remember, Mahathir moved decisively to sack Anwar Ibrahim in 1998 when the latter attempted to force him out on allegations of Mahathir's practice of nepotism and cronyism, allegations which subsequently bounced back against Anwar himself when the wily old fox showed documentary evidence that his accusers were guilty of the same accusations.

my dear boy, keep your nose squeaky clean and let Moody do the dirty work, then you reap the outcome but don't forget to make my ... er ... your 'brother' deputy

PKR defends Mahathir

TMI's Sacking Dr Mahathir as Petronas adviser an abuse of power, says PKR reported that PKR's N Surendran said:

The removal of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as adviser of national oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) simply because of his political differences with the prime minister is an unlawful exercise of power and is open to legal challenge, a PKR lawmaker says today.

How dare he on top of refusing to report to me for more than 6 months?

Melayu memang mudah lupa apa dia dah buat kepada kerajaan?

OK, but let me ask Surendran about DAP's Dr Bari being rejected as a Selangor Ampang Jaya councillor (MPAJ). He was nominated by DAP but his name was deliberately dropped by the powers-that-be in Selangor.

Initially DAP-bashers blamed DAP for sneakily dropping him because he is a Malay and DAP is/was being anti-Malay, which made cow-sense because why then would the DAP have nominated him in the first place? But morons are morons!

In this RPK post, one of M2D's regular commentators Edwin Jansz provided information which threw sad lights on why Dr Bari's name had been dropped. Jansz had written (only relevant extract):

... azmin's recent silent but deadly chess move against bari says a lot. and i suspect (merely guessing) that azmin is under the sultan's tutelage.

I'm sure you know who the 'azmin' is. So, if Jansz's info is correct, then Dr Bari was 'done by' his former PKR party No 2, supposedly an ally of DAP, wakakaka.

A bit of background on Dr Bari to shed more light on PKR's alleged animosity against Dr Bari - He was formerly a PKR member but on seeing the sad state of affairs in that kang-kang taxi sapu party, he decided to quit and join the DAP.

Obviously 'hell hath no fury like a kang-kang taxi sapu party scorned', wakakaka.

I won't touch on Jansz' suspicion that Azmin was acting under HRH's orders - Ampun Tuanku.

But notwithstanding Surendran's misguided or bizarre defence of Mahathir's position as advisor to Petronas, I've to grudgingly admit that the DAP in Selangor suffers from a far more sad state of affair with Tony Pua as its state captain. I've been terribly disappointed with the so-called DAP whiz-kid wonder, Tony Pua. Indeed, what did he do to argue the case for Dr Bari?

Anyway, YB Surendran should look into why Dr Bari's name was dropped from the list for MPAJ councillors before commenting on issues pertaining to the PM's prerogative and UMNO internal affairs.

What's good for the goose should be too for the gander!

I'll get the party to defend you Uncle

Good on you and I'll definitely reciprocate, but make sure you make Mukhriz your DPM

Mafulat man, I thought I will be taking over but the old man has gone for his own family, even one not in UMNO (for now)

Seeking sweet luscious un-halal votes?

MM Online - New PAS-led pact won’t dent Pakatan Harapan armour, analysts say

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 ― The new opposition alliance PAS plans to form next week with an unnamed partner is not likely to achieve the Islamist party’s goal of hurting Pakatan Rakyat or Barisan Nasional’s (BN) chances at the ballot boxes the next federal polls, observers said.

Political analysts told Malay Mail Online that this so-called third force would create barely a ripple in the country’s political landscape as the 14th general election will remain either Pakatan Harapan’s or BN’s to win.

Associate Professor Dr Jeniri Amir said at most, the new alliance could steal some votes from Pakatan Harapan.

“Yes, PAS's new pact can split the (opposition) vote… might deceive some voters in GE14 (14th general election), but the impact is going to be nothing on Pakatan Harapan and BN.

“If you ask me, it is just a dream and PAS is not going to go anywhere with this as the party is more interested in championing its own agenda after falling out with PKR and DAP,” the Universiti Sarawak Malaysia senior lecturer told Malay Mail Online when contacted.

For analyst Khoo Kay Peng, PAS’s latest maneuver was just the Islamist party’s way of flexing its muscles to show its former allies in the opposition that it was doing just fine on its own.

He said, however, that while PAS is free to do as it pleases, starting a new opposition bloc is “politically unnecessary” and akin to putting the cart before the horse.

The analyst said the party should first set its priorities and political goals right before forming an alternative pact to Pakatan Harapan, the alliance it refused to team up with due to its failure to close ranks with its former allies in the DAP.

“In Selangor, PAS is working with PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Rakyat (Amanah) and on the federal level, (PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul) Hadi (Awang) is seen to be somewhat aligned with Umno… I think the party is little confused at the moment,” he said.

Whatever its boast, PAS lusts after Chinese votes. That has been why it declares it's teaming up with a multiracial party, not any Islamic party but a multiracial one, though saying this when it's playing footsie tootsie with UMNO.

And it hopes somehow PKR in Selangor will help shore up its likeable-to-Chinese credentials there.

For more, see my earlier post titled Another Malaysian father-in-law story where you will find out why PAS has been so keen to show Pak Haji Hadi Awang has a Chinese relative, wakakaka.

Kernels of truth about Mahathir

A quote from TMI's
Why should anyone trust Mahathir!

“Personally, I would not link up with Dr Mahathir,” said political scientist Dr James Chin.

“For the simple reason is that the mess Malaysia is in now is caused by him. If we do not acknowledge the past, we will make the same mistakes.”

F
rom Malaysiakini's Save Malaysia - ‘Realpolitik’ cannot be devoid of principle

Proarte writes: I think Micawberism has taken hold of the opposition. They never seem to learn.

The unprincipled 'my enemy's enemy is my friend' approach which characterised Pakatan Rakyat's DAP, PAS and PKR coming together, ended up in tears with Pakatan Rakyat disintegrating because PAS wanted to introduce hudud in Malaysia.

Despite being unconstitutional and a clear contravention of DAP’s political philosophy, DAP and PAS managed to convince themselves to ‘agree to disagree’ on fundamental principles. Naturally this resulted in an unstable Pakatan coalition which self-destructed after so many wasted years.

Collaborating with Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a man who was responsible in large part for the mess we are in may be 'realpolitik' but it cannot be devoid of principle.

A new paradigm which is based on equality of each citizen and affirmative action based on need and not race must be agreed by Mahathir before any meaningful collaboration can take place. This has to be the opposition’s non-negotiable position.
