The internal PKR analysis highlighting the party’s eroding public support in key constituencies was born out of a spirit of self-reflection, said PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
It also underscored the need to close ranks, strengthen machinery, and focus efforts on providing the best service to the people.
“This is so that no political party remains complacent,” she said in a social media post.
Nurul Izzah condemned those who had disclosed the document, calling them more interested in being a “source of treachery for the sake of sensational news” than maintaining organisational etiquette.
She urged readers to be more discerning between “sincere whistleblowers” and “treacherous whistleblowers”, and celebrate the former.
“Unfortunately, there are parties likely aiming to sabotage efforts to improve and refine our collective work. Wallahualam (Allah knows best),” she added.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah said an earlier version of a Malaysiakini article, which named her as the person who presented a report on the analysis on May 2, was “pure slander”. She urged Malaysiakini to correct the report and delete references to her.
For the record, Malaysiakini had contacted Nurul Izzah on Sunday evening (May 3) to verify claims about the report and its findings, and did not receive a response by the time the story was published on Tuesday morning (May 5).
Following the publication, Malaysiakini removed her name from the article pending further verification, after receiving information that another senior PKR leader had presented the report.
The report titled “GE16 Strategic Analysis: Tier-Based Summary” showed that PKR was on the defensive, with its grip on key seats steadily eroding.
The analysis of 66 seats, which were identified as PKR’s focus, placed seven into Tier 1 (strong/safe), 13 in Tier 2A (leaning strong), 17 in Tier 2B (marginal/competitive), and 29 in Tier 3 (difficult/recovery).
The breakdown showed that the majority of the seats studied - 46 in total (Tier 2B and Tier 3) - fell into high-risk zones or required significant image recovery.
The seats deemed to be in need of intervention included Tambun (Tier 2B) held by party president Anwar Ibrahim, vice-president Amirudin Shari’s Gombak seat (Tier 3), and vice-president R Ramanan’s Sungai Buloh seat (Tier 3).
