KUALA LUMPUR – Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he will meet Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to seek clarification on the meaning behind the statement made by the Umno Youth chief following his resignation as a Melaka state executive councillor (Exco).

Zahid said he personally wanted to know the actual target referred to by the Merlimau state assemblyman (ADUN), while stressing that stepping down from the post was a personal decision.

“I want to know. I will meet him, who he intends to attack in this matter,” he said when met after launching the new logo of the Umno Overseas Club at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Thursday.

Previously, Dr Akmal, in delivering his policy speech as Umno Youth chief at the 2025 Umno General Assembly, announced his resignation as Melaka State Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security.

He said the decision was made to allow him to focus on the struggle against DAP, which he described as a clear and real enemy.

Meanwhile, commenting on views and proposals put forward regarding the direction of political cooperation, Zahid stressed that such matters should be discussed through the party’s official channels.

“Those are suggestions and recommendations, but the final decision rests with Umno’s top leadership, particularly the Supreme Council.

“Views can be presented to the Supreme Council when we hold meetings later,” he said.
