Pro-Israel Malaysians should lose their citizenship, said controversial column in Berita Harian

A BERITA Harian commentary will spark debate after suggesting that Malaysians who appear to support Israel’s actions in Gaza should have their citizenship revoked.


Writing under the column Belalang, the author criticised a small group of Malaysians who, in their social media comments, were seen mocking or belittling the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) volunteers detained by Israeli forces.


“A small group of Malaysians not only belittled but even mocked the struggle of volunteers who had to share food and risk their lives in the face of the Israeli military’s guns,” the article said.

The column described such individuals as “blind in both eyes and hearts” and compared them to “snakes coiled in a mat” whose venom could erode societal values.

“Those with such forked tongues, willing to take the side of the oppressor, should have their citizenship revoked altogether,” it added. The writer argued that while the world rallies behind Palestine, a few Malaysians openly side with Israel despite its alleged genocide and war crimes in Gaza.


The columnist also noted that while US President Donald Trump’s statements may be persuasive, they are insufficient to ensure peace.

The writer supported Colombia’s proposal at the UN General Assembly for deploying international peacekeepers to monitor the ceasefire’s implementation, suggesting that Malaysia and ASEAN should raise the issue during Trump’s upcoming visit for the ASEAN Summit. —Oct 5, 2025
