KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the national education system to place serious emphasis on values and principles to curb the spread of immoral behaviour.
BuletinTV3 reported that Anwar stressed that weaknesses in the current education system must be addressed urgently, including through the role of parents.
“There’s another rape case in school. At almost every event I attended in Tambun last Saturday, there were two school programmes. I raised the issue of bullying there.
“Education is about knowledge, not values, not moral and ethical principles. That’s where the shortcoming lies. It’s not just the teachers’ fault — parents and the system share the blame,” he said.
He said this when addressing staff of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) during their monthly assembly here today.
