Flood evacuees rise in Kedah, stable in Johor; thunderstorms forecast across Perak Sunday afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — The number of flood evacuees in Kedah increased this morning, while the situation in Perak and Johor remained unchanged, with more than 300 residents still housed at temporary relief centres (PPS).
In KEDAH, the number of evacuees taking shelter at the Pokok Sena Multipurpose Hall rose this morning to 100 people from 30 families, compared with 86 people from 25 families last night.
Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the increase was due to the relocation of evacuees from Mukim Lesong, involving Kampung Permatang Limau, to the centre.
He said that currently, only two rivers were at alert level, namely Sungai Ketil in Kampung Bongor, Baling, and Sungai Bata in Kampung Bata, Kubang Pasu.
In PERAK, the number of flood evacuees in the Larut, Matang and Selama district remained at 107 people from 33 families who were placed at three PPS in Taiping as of 8 am today.
The Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat said in a statement that 22 residents from eight families from Taman Mawar, Taman Simpang Makmur, Taman Indah, Taman Kota Jaya and Kampung Jalapang Jaya were being accommodated at the PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Simpang.
A total of 38 victims from 11 families from Kampung Matang Jambu and Kampung Telok Kertang are still taking shelter at SK Matang, while 47 victims from 14 families from Kampung Matang Pasir and Kampung Matang Gelugor are housed at SK Matang Gelugor.
Thunderstorms have been forecast this afternoon in the Larut, Matang and Selama, Kerian, Perak Tengah, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar and Batang Padang.
In JOHOR, the number of flash flood victims relocated to a PPS in Pontian remained at 159 people from 46 families as of 8 am today.
Johor JPBN chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the centre at SK Melayu Raya, which opened at 6 am yesterday, was housing residents from five villages, namely Kampung Melayu Raya, Kampung Paya Embun, Kampung Pak Kalib, Kampung Seri Menanti and Kampung Maju Jaya.
