PETALING JAYA, Oct 5 — Police today confirmed the death of another victim involved in the recent accident at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza that previously claimed the life of a toddler and injured several others.

Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the deceased was a 48-year-old civil servant, bringing the total number of fatalities to two.

“It is with deep regret that we confirm another victim involved in the accident was pronounced dead at 11am today.

“The deceased will be handed over to the next-of-kin after an autopsy has been completed,” he said in a brief statement.

Naazron said the man died at Hospital Kajang after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

“Investigations are still underway pending a full report from the relevant agencies,” he said.

The crash on September 27 occurred around 10.50am when a lorry experiencing brake failure rammed into a car at the toll plaza, resulting in the immediate death of a 16-month-old boy and injuring seven others.

Naazron previously said the crash, which involved four vehicles — a lorry, a car and two sport utility vehicles — was believed to have happened when the lorry carrying scrap iron from Semenyih to Putrajaya experienced brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the other vehicles heading towards the toll plaza.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said investigators are waiting for a full report from technical experts before taking further action.

The 42-year-old suspect, who was the lorry driver, has been released on police bail, while statements from all those involved have been recorded.

The Land Public Transport Agency has since revoked the operating licence of the lorry company involved in the fatal crash.
