For once Akmal is “anak jantan” for rebutting PMX’s claim of 85% M’sians not impacted by electric tariff hike
A RARITY but surely UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh deserved praises for having demonstrated his gutsy, fearless self by ‘picking a fight’ with the right guy who is none other than Malaysia’s topmost decision maker.
This came about following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s justification during this morning’s (Feb 4) Prime Minister’s Question Time (PMQT) that the new electricity tariff rates will only be applicable to factories and the super-rich.
Henceforth, 85% of Malaysians would not be adversely impacted, according to PMX, which the Merlimau state assemblyman begged to differ.
“My question is what’s the government’s guarantee that increases in electricity tariff imposed on these factories will not result in an increase in the price of goods produced by these factories?” he penned in a Facebook post.
“Kadar kenaikan tarif elektrik hanya akan dikenakan kepada kilang-kilang dan golongan mahakaya”
Dan menurut PMX 85% rakyat tidak terkesan
Persoalan saya, apakah jaminan kerajaan apabila kenaikan tarif elektrik yang dikenakan kepada kilang-kilang ini tidak akan memberi kesan pada kenaikan harga barang yang dikeluarkan oleh kilang-kilang ini?
...See more“Maybe PMX is more aware of the domino effect that when a tariff increase is imposed on factories, the rakyat as consumers will bear the impact with the eventual increase in the price of goods produced.”
To be fair to Akmal, it will be an understatement that he is showing off his anak jantan (macho male) prowess this very instance for many detractors have similarly questioned the various tax hikes by the Madani government which contradicted the Pakatan Harapan (PH) 15th General Election (GE15) manifesto/campaign promises.
“If the country has so much money to help Gaza, why is there an urgent need to cut fuel subsidies, egg subsidies, chicken subsidies, education subsidies, rice subsidies, cooking oil subsidies while at the same time increases service tax, water bill, electricity tariff, assessment rate and whatnot?” fumed human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim on X.
"If the country has so much money to help Gaza, why is there an urgent need to cut fuel subsidies, egg subsidies, chicken subsidies, education subsidies, rice subsidies, cooking oil subsidies while at the same time increases service tax, water bill, electricity tariff, assessment… Show more
But to his credit, one cannot help but wonder if the Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman is stretching his luck too far by proposing to PMX who is also the Finance Minister to re-implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which is synonymous with incarcerated former premier and previous UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“(GST) is apparently more effective in increasing national income and is fairer, and has been proven effective throughout the world,” lobbied the Russia-trained medical doctor.
“If you are allergic to the name GST, we can give it another name, I promise it can help increase national income and help the people.” – Feb 4, 2025
