Religious affairs minister
slams Hadi over ‘Madani
jahiliah’ swipe at govt
Na’im Mokhtar urges Muslims to be cautious of certain parties who may seek to create religious polemics for personal interest.
Hadi reportedly said the government’s Madani concept was ingenuine and rooted in “Madani jahiliah”. “Jahiliah”, the Arabic term for “ignorance”, is typically used to refer to pagan Arabia.
While he did not explicitly mention Hadi, Na’im said the statement was excessive and disappointing.
“The reality is that the Madani concept introduced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is a noble vision aimed at restoring the nation’s dignity.
“It’s a concept that has been widely accepted by Islamic scholars as being based on the Quran and Sunnah. It also emphasises on a national development approach that is holistic and comprehensive, both spiritually and physically,” he said in a statement.
The minister urged Muslims to be cautious of certain parties who might seek to create religious polemics for personal interest.
“With the celebration of a new year, the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) urges all parties to strengthen unity and develop the nation for the sake of the rakyat.”
