Political 'Squid Game': PAS claims DAP facing elimination

Summary

  • PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari claims DAP is struggling to survive in the political arena, equating their situation to a participant in the "Squid Game" who is on the verge of elimination due to their compromised principles.

  • Fadhli highlights DAP’s hypocrisy, particularly in their silence over a cabinet member facing corruption charges.

  • He suggests that if DAP continues on this path, they may face political elimination in the upcoming election.

Political “Squid Game” has become the latest analogy in a tit-for-tat between DAP and PAS.

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari is alleging DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng of desperately trying to divert public attention by accusing PAS of engaging in a political "Squid Game".

However, he said, DAP itself is a contestant in this game, struggling to survive in an increasingly challenging political arena.

"If viewed honestly, DAP's recent political moves suggest they are a player on the verge of being eliminated from the game."

Ahmad Fadhli Shaari

“Squid Game” is a South Korean dystopian survival thriller television series on Netflix.

Fadhli pointed out that in the game, those who are not honest with themselves inevitably fail.

"The same can be said for DAP. When they joined the unity government, the public awaited to see how their principles of integrity would be applied.

"However, the appointment of a cabinet member facing corruption charges has exposed their hypocrisy.

"DAP, once vocal in condemning 'kleptocratic' politics, now chooses silence. Silence for what? For positions in the cabinet.

"Isn't this a classic example of a Squid Game participant willing to sacrifice principles to survive in the game?"

He added that in the game's "Red Light, Green Light", every wrong move could mean death.

He said DAP now finds itself in a similar situation, where every time they try to step forward with rhetoric on integrity, a "red light" signals when the public questions their actions, which contradict their prior promises.

"DAP, which once championed integrity, is now trapped by actions that oppose its previous stance.

"The appointment of a cabinet member facing charges in court, even under the prime minister’s directive, reflects that DAP is no longer a bearer of the change they once proclaimed."

Public is watching

He further said that in “Squid Game”, some participants fail because they refuse to let go of their egos, which he equated to the "Lim family legacy" in DAP.

He claimed that DAP members are questioning why the "Lim dynasty" continues to cast a large shadow, preventing real change within DAP.

"In politics, the public seeks reform, not the ghosts of the past."

He said in “Squid Game”, participants who lose support are eliminated.

"The public is watching, and DAP's support is dwindling day by day.

"While PAS remains consistent in its agenda of defending religion, race, and the nation, DAP seems to falter with principles compromised.

"If this continues, it is not impossible that DAP will become a political Squid Game participant facing elimination in the next election."

He said, PAS stands firm on its principles and struggles, while DAP becomes ensnared by pragmatic decisions that undermine its credibility.

Lim Guan Eng

He said Lim may need to reflect on how it feels to be part of a cabinet he once called "a kleptocratic government".

"Does it not feel like being a Squid Game participant, lost and trapped in a game of their own making?

"One thing is certain - in this political game, the people are the true judges. Those who continue to play with hypocrisy will ultimately lose," said Fadhli.
