Harith Iskander’s “Kopi Confusion” sparks laughter, debates online

MALAYSIAN comedian Harith Iskander has taken to social media to share his hilarious struggle with a cup of coffee that he claims has shaken his moral compass. The post, which quickly gained attention, highlights Harith’s comedic take on a confusing moment over a beverage with a suspiciously suggestive name.

Sharing his predicament, he wrote, “This kopi will lead me down the wrong path. Not just tempting me to become hamsap but also confusing me with the word ‘ham’ in it. Ini untuk minum atau makan? I must make a polis report because I am so weak I have lost all ability to use logic.”

Harith added: “I am now questioning everything. My iman tergugat. Did I just commit a wrongful act by drinking this? Someone, please confirm if I’m still on the straight and narrow path.”

A photo of a menu with ‘kopi ham sap’ printed on it accompanied his post on X.

Fans and followers flooded the comments, laughing at Harith’s dramatic take on what some called a “coffee existential crisis”. The comic, known for his wit, appears to have struck a chord with Malaysians, blending humour with a dash of cultural commentary.

A controversy arose over ham and cheese sandwiches bearing the halal logo sold at some KK Mart outlets.

Critics, including UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh, questioned how products labelled as “ham” could be certified halal. Investigations revealed that the “ham” was made from chicken, not pork.

However, the company responsible for producing the sandwiches was not certified to use the halal logo on its packaging, sparking further scrutiny over proper halal certification practices. — Jan 18, 2025
