DeleteMy dear friend Alice has taken umbrage with the reporting of Greenland and Canada becoming part of the US. We speak of buying or annexing them, which is a nice way of saying the US can simply conquer and take over established societies without their approval.
If Germany was talking about annexing Austria and Poland we would be calling them imperialists. We’ve seen that movie before, and it sparked a global conflict.
We are strangely reticent when it is our own government that seeks expansionism at the possible expense of the people who live in these other nations, as if they are just empty land masses to be taken at a whim.
I like the idea of adding Greenland and Canada to our nation, but my opinion hardly matters. It is the position of the people of these two countries that matter. They are not just playthings.
It is a fair question to ask what the people of these nations want, and whether they desire to be part of the United States.
We don’t have the answer to that question, yet.
In the interim we should be careful not to celebrate the arrogance of empires.

While Congress is expected to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election, the rest of Washington, D.C., has largely been shut down by a snowstorm that battered much of the mid-Atlantic on Monday.
The first major snowstorm of the winter for Washington dumped several inches of snow overnight and is expected to build up through the rest of the day, totaling roughly 6 to 10 inches of snow during the storm.

Donald Trump Jr. is expected to visit Greenland on Tuesday, a local government official told Reuters two weeks after Trump's father, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, expressed interest in gaining control over the vast Arctic island.
No meetings were scheduled with representatives of the Greenlandic government, the island's permanent secretary for foreign affairs, Mininnguaq Kleist, told Reuters: "We have not been briefed on the nature of his program, and therefore this is a private visit."
A source familiar with the trip told Reuters that Trump Jr. is planning a one-day visit to shoot video content for a podcast and that he would not meet with any government officials or political figures.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

My friend Chris Paul has been talking about the original Articles of Confederation quite a bit lately, and there was an interesting almost-path for Canada in that brief window of history. Either way, Trump is saying more than we think when it comes to what defines sovereign "Statehood."
What's more, as I said a few weeks back, Trump v. Trudeau was little more than the latest in a long line of Shadows on the Wall deployments meant to demonstrate emphatically to the globalist would-be ruling class that many of their prized puppets are now marching to the beat of patriot drums, by hook or by crook.
Trudeau's ouster by the Canadian political class (read: British Royals,) was expected, even planned, not unlike Joe Biden.
Oh ... and what's that? A Sovereign Alliance comm tucked neatly in the middle?
Trudeau capitulated, and has been ushered offstage. Zelenskyy will do the same. And then Starmer, Macron, and on and on.

There is a reason why Trump has been wanting to buy Greenland since his first administration.
It's all part of his trade war with China.
China used a company called Greenland Minerals to get their hands on valuable minerals in the country.
Chinese company, Shenghe Resources Holdings, is the largest stakeholder in Greenland Minerals. So they have been essentially mining and moving their way into Greenland for years now.
China is essentially processing rare earth concentrates that contains the radioactive elements uranium and thorium.
So this isn't just for some meme that Trump is doing this.
The land has strategic value.
Around the exact same time that Trump first brought buying Greenland to the forefront, he told reporters that he was the "chosen one" to win the trade wars with China.
Listen to him closely in this last clip:
"Over the last five years, China has made 500 billion dollars. Ripped it out of the United States. Somebody had to do it. I am the chosen one. So I'm taking on China on trade. And you know what?
