Harapan Daily apologises, takes down offending report
The portal’s response came after the Pahang sultan said he considered the report to be defamatory.
PETALING JAYA: The news portal Harapan Daily has apologised to the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, over a news report in which a speech he made last week was misrepresented by the portal.
“We apologise for the mistake and we retract the report. We have also deleted the story from our system,” Harapan Daily said in a brief statement published on the portal this evening.
The article, “Sultan Pahang beri amaran terhadap amalan bawaan PAS” (Pahang Sultan warns against PAS practices), published last week, drew a statement from the Pahang palace today which said Sultan Abdullah expressed regret and disappointment over the report.
The sultan said he considered the report to be defamatory, which could have negative implications that could spark disharmony.
He emphasised that his remarks in a speech at the Chenor Agricultural Academy in Maran were not directed at any political party, but were made to serve as a reminder for many that the sanctity of a mosque should always be preserved.
PAS Youth has since said it would lodge a police report against the portal and accused it of attempting to smear the party’s image.
