KYIV – Ukraine will not cede its territories to Russia to obtain Nato membership, Xinhua quoted Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko yesterday.
“The talks about Ukraine joining Nato in exchange for giving up parts of Ukrainian territories are absolutely unacceptable,” Nikolenko wrote on Facebook.
He emphasised that Ukraine is committed to further cooperation with Nato to achieve full membership in the alliance.
The statement came after a comment from Stian Jenssen, director of the private office of the Nato secretary-general, who proposed that Ukraine cede part of its territory to Russia in exchange for membership to end the war, the Ukrinform news agency reported. – Bernama, August 16, 2023

oh dear, zelensky's days are numbered unless he goes to the ball and play ball, what nato says or want, the usa always gets, time for another regime change
ReplyDeleteIt's not & never up to Ukraine to dictate the state of war in the Russia/Ukraine conflict!
ReplyDeleteUkraine joining Nato in exchange for giving up parts of Ukrainian territories are the tired & disillusioned Yank lead EU in designing the best outcome of this war.
The Yank commands the doogie troops while staying safely far far away in its own lair.
What he says goes!
Contrary to the long Russki disinformation campaign, the Yanks had never been reflexively against any peace agreement. What they have been against is a peace agreement that rewards and sanitizer the Russki aggression in Ukraine or tantamount to a Ukrainian surrender.
ReplyDeleteOne idea being thrown around is a "South Korea-style" peace settlement on Ukraine.
ReplyDeleteIn return for accepting Crimeonand possibly parts of Donbass occupied before 2022, Ukraine is given NATO-standard security guarantees and integration into EU and the Western-led economic system.
What such a deal proposal fails to recognise is Before the start of the Korean War , the 52nd parallel was already the boundary between the Communist North and the Non-Communist South Korea. So no new reality was accepted during the Korean Armistice.
For Ukraine to legally give up Crimea and parts of Donbass would amount to rewarding Russki Aggression.
As Bullies all over the world behave, the Bully will be back for more.
You seem to like telling story from your memory long long ago but always got your facts wrong! What is this "the 52nd parallel"?
