Kedah so near Penang yet lagging behind, Sanusi told

Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor comes under fire for claiming Selangor has only developed thanks to its proximity to Kuala Lumpur.

Sanusi Nor should focus on developing the northern state rather than claiming that Penang belongs to Kedah, says a former Selangor assemblyman.

PETALING JAYA: A former assemblyman in Selangor has hit back at Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor over the latter’s claim that Selangor was well-developed and rich only because of its proximity to Kuala Lumpur.

Former Dusun Tua state assemblyman Edry Faizal told FMT that Kedah is close to Penang yet is lagging behind in development and has barely benefited from the island’s economic growth.

The DAP man told Sanusi to focus on developing the northern state rather than claiming that Penang belongs to Kedah, as the PAS election director has repeatedly claimed previously.

“Selangor is lucky not to have a leader like Sanusi. Otherwise, he would want to lay claim to KL as well,” he quipped. “But (Pakatan Harapan) won’t do that.”

On Thursday, Sanusi claimed that Selangor’s development was not thanks to the policies of the Pakatan Harapan state government but mere good fortune from being located close to Kuala Lumpur.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director said Selangor could not be considered an exemplary PH state as it only rides on the benefits and shared fortunes from being near the capital city and financial hub of the country.

Former Kapar MP G Manivannan said the progress of any state or federal territory is the product of policies put in place by the relevant government, not merely geographical factors.

The PKR central leadership council member claimed that Kedah would be more developed than it currently was if it had been led by a menteri besar like Amirudin Shari for a full term.

Amirudin, a PKR vice-president, is currently the caretaker menteri besar for Selangor following the dissolution of the state assembly..

“If Kedah is not well-developed there is no use in blaming others.

“Give us the chance to govern Kedah for the next five years and we can prove that a joint PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) administration is far better than (being under Sanusi),” he said.
