KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — MCA is yet undecided on whether or not to contest in the six state elections that are due soon, its president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said.

Wee said that a decision will be based on the views of its wings and grassroots members and an announcement will be made after its leaders discuss the issue, The Star reported today.

“The state elections are just around the corner.

“We cannot drag it for too long,” he was quoted as saying.

No reason was given for the Barisan Nasional component party’s decision to consider skipping the state elections this time.

Last month, Wee said the party was negotiating for seats in the elections.

During the MCA’s 74th anniversary celebration in March, Wee had said that seat negotiations were complicated as the party has no elected representatives in the six states.

The six states that will be having its state elections were Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

All the six states have dissolved their respective state assemblies to date, with Negeri Sembilan’s dissolution of its legislature to be announced today.

The state elections are expected to be held simultaneously either this month or in August.
