Aide rubbishes claims Sanusi threatened to boycott polls over Mukhriz

This follows allegations Sanusi Nor was unhappy with alleged ‘interference’ within PAS to help Mukhriz Mahathir with seat allocations in Kedah.

PETALING JAYA: An aide to Sanusi Nor has rubbished claims that the PAS leader had threatened to boycott the upcoming election in Kedah over Mukhriz Mahathir’s purported candidacy for the menteri besar’s post.

This follows a viral Twitter post alleging that Sanusi had threatened to boycott the polls due to alleged “internal interference” within PAS’ central leadership to “help” Mukhriz, a former Kedah menteri besar, and Dr Mahathir Mohamad with seat allocations in the state.

The posting alleged that Sanusi was unhappy over the matter and walked out of a PAS meeting.

Hilmi Abd Wahab, Sanusi’s political secretary, said the claim was illogical as Pejuang was not a component of Perikatan Nasional while Mukhriz’s name was not even mentioned when Kedah PN met recently.

He claimed the Twitter posting was “nonsense propaganda” by PN’s opponents, saying they had nothing else to ride on for their election campaign.

Similarly, Sanusi’s media officer, Helmi Khalid, denied the claim that the PAS election director had walked out of the Islamic party’s meeting.

“(Sanusi) has never staged a walk-out during a meeting,” he said.

Last month, Mukhriz said in a Facebook post that he would not be Kedah menteri besar again, urging his rivals to “stop spreading such nonsensical propaganda”.

Sanusi had also commented on the rumours in the past, saying the candidate for the post will be decided by the PN leadership.
