Zahid: As Najib remains jailed, many more 'Najibs' will emerge

Former Umno leader Najib Abdul Razak may be in jail, but his struggle will be carried out by many more party members, said his successor Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In his closing speech at the Umno annual delegates assembly today, Zahid said Najib's three scions have already taken up the cudgels, urging other members to do so as well.

"Najib is alone in jail but 'three Najibs' have emerged in this hall. God willing... Many more 'new Najibs' will emerge to continue his struggle," he said.

Najib began serving his 12-year jail term for laundering RM42 million that belonged to state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Zahid told delegates that he and Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah had managed to visit Najib in the Kajang Prison.

"We had breakfast with him and brought all his favourite food. We ate together. He is now pursuing a doctorate degree.

"After 30 minutes, I had a four-eyed meeting with him for 90 minutes. No need for me to detail what we discussed.

"God willing, the supreme council, which received its mandate from the divisions, will continue its commitment to defend Najib to ensure he receives justice," said the deputy prime minister.
