PETALING JAYA: Zuraida Kamaruddin faces an uphill task as she seeks a fourth term as the Ampang MP, analysts say, citing the Pakatan Harapan brand, which they say is a lot more influential.

Awang Azman Pawi of Universiti Malaya says the PH brand outshines the federal minister’s personality.

“The PKR-Pakatan Harapan brand is bigger than the individual and Zuraida previously contested under the PKR ticket.”

In the 2018 general election, she won with a 41,956-vote majority. “Now that she is no longer with the party, the road ahead is challenging,” Awang Azman told FMT.

Zuraida is contesting as a Parti Bangsa Malaysia candidate in a nine-cornered fight.

She was among the faction of PKR leaders who quit the party during the Sheraton Move that led to the collapse of the PH government in 2020.

Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said Zuraida’s personality does not give her an edge against PH.

“Voters want a stable government and this is why they do not view PBM as an alternative.”

Earlier today, Zuraida declared that she was likely to retain the Ampang seat again based on “feedback from the ground”.

She said voters recognised her efforts to alleviate poverty, ease traffic congestion and resolve flooding problems.

She also claimed many said they would vote for her because of her efforts in the housing and local government as well as plantation industries and commodities ministries.
