PETALING JAYA: Gombak division chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin is the new Selangor Umno chief, replacing Noh Omar who quit in the wake of the party’s disastrous outing in the general election (GE15).

Megat was also made a member of the Umno Supreme Council, along with Wangsa Maju Umno chief Shafie Abdullah, according to a tweet from Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.

The duo took their oaths of secrecy when the Supreme Council met on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Suraya Yaacob has been appointed Kedah Umno deputy chief, replacing Othman Aziz, who had also quit his position over the fallout from GE15.

Both Noh and Othman cited a loss of confidence in the leadership of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and called for him to resign.

Yesterday, Shafie led a group of 130 Umno division chiefs in voicing their support for Zahid to remain as the party’s president. There are 191 Umno divisions nationwide.
