We have ‘stupid ministers’ because smart people avoid politics, says Pua

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia does not have “bright ministers” because smart people tend to avoid politics, says Damansara MP Tony Pua.
“When smart people don’t join politics, who becomes prime minister? Stupid people,” said Pua at a Petaling Jaya DAP fundraiser.
However, he conceded that there were “stupid ministers” in both Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) but said that “BN had stupider ministers”.
Pua said a critical factor for PH to succeed in the 15th general election (GE15) would be its ability to attract smart people into politics.
He said Malaysians tend to discourage their children from joining politics because it is “very bad and dirty”, resulting in bright students staying away from politics.
This culture must change and the younger generation, especially those under 30, must be encouraged to shift their mindsets because being a politician could be a “noble profession” and one would be able to change the future of the country.
