PETALING JAYA: Muda has named its first candidate today, its secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, to contest for the Puteri Wangsa seat in the coming Johor state elections.

The announcement was made by Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

“She is the backbone of Muda not Syed Saddiq. The backbone of Muda is (Amira) the candidate nominated to contest in Puteri Wangsa. She has an extraordinary fighting spirit,” he said.

Puteri Wangsa is one of six seats where Pakatan Harapan partners Amanah and DAP made way for Muda to contest. The other seats are Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Parit Raja, Machap, and Bukit Permai.

Amanah’s decision to hand over the Puteri Wangsa seat to Muda has caused dissatisfaction among some PKR members and leaders at the grassroots level.

Amira said she would take up economic, education and security issues if elected. She pledged to keep her election promises if elected and to continue to serve the people if she was not elected.

“What I want to do in the Puteri Wangsa state constituency is the politics of service, the politics of policy and the politics of values, this is my promise for Puteri Wangsa,” she said.

Nominations for the election will be held on Feb 26, with polling on March 12.
